About the challenge
The students at the University of Minnesota, Crookston, are leading the Campus Energy Challenge to reduce the energy use of their campus. It's a fun project initiated by Otter Tail Power Company and a unique way to understand that the choices we make about our energy lifestyle have a global impact.
Goals:
- Reduce energy use on the entire campus by 10 percent to 15 percent by 2015.
- Identify and invest in more efficient heating and cooling systems, ventilation, and lighting.
- Save money on campus energy bills through operational and behavioral changes.
- Teach everyone involved how to optimize their energy use on campus and at home.
Otter Tail Power Company will help with:
- Subsidized energy audits of existing heating, cooling, ventilating, and lighting.
- Grants, rebates, and low-interest financing for qualified energy-efficiency investments.
- Financial awards to students, operations managers, and administration based on the amount of savings achieved.
- Grant money for student employment and scholarships.
